Chief Reservoir Engineer, Turkish Petroleum Corporation (TP)

Murat Fatih TUĞAN graduated from METU Petroleum and Natural Gas Engineering (PNGE) Department in 2006 and has been working for Turkish Petroleum (TPAO) as a Reservoir Engineer since then. He is currently the Chief Reservoir Engineer of Gas Reservoir Management Division. He worked in several projects of TPAO, including Libya and Colombia exploration and development projects, Afghanistan workover and well testing projects, Western Black Sea offshore gas fields development and production projects and domestic gas and oil exploration projects. He has been participating in unconventional projects of TPAO as reservoir engineer since beginning of the project (2012).

He has been part of Weijermars Research Group of Texas A&M University (TAMU) Petroleum Engineering Department since February 2019 and conducted postdoctoral research studies on shale gas and shale oil projects during his visiting scholar term (February-November 2019) in TAMU.

Synchronous to his professional life, he continued his academic studies. He graduated from M.Sc in ITU PNGE Department in June 2010 and earned Ph.D degree in METU PETE Department in October 2017. He designed a course named “Unconventional Oil and Gas Resources” for senior students and he is currently  teaching this course in METU PETE Department.

His special Interests include pressure transient test design and analysis, production performance analysis, numerical reservoir simulation, reserves estimation, classification, auditing and unconventional oil and gas reservoir engineering .

He has also been serving in SPE Turkey Section Executive Board since 2012 and currently serving as the Executive Advisor after his presidential period of 2014 to 2018. During his presidency, he led the section to the "SPE Outstanding Young Professional Activity Section Award" in 2015, which was the first award of SPE Turkey Section in its history. While he was chairing, section organized 2 large symposiums, 50+ lectures and lots of social events especially for young professionals. He also served on the organizing committees of a number of SPE International conferences and served as a mentor in SPE eMentoring Program in 2015. He was the recipient of the “SPE Outstanding Young Professional Award” for South, Central and East Europe Region in 2013.

Murat Fatih TUĞAN is currently working for TP as Chief/Senior Reservoir Engineer. He is also a member of SPE (Society of Petroleum Engineers) since 2003 and PMO (Chamber of Petroleum Engineers of Turkey) since 2009.
